3 Moments of Goodness from Necessary Roughness “ch-ch-Changes”

Necessary Roughness - Season 3

While I loved the episode and was so glad to see the show return, I can’t say I “loved” every Moment of Goodness. I mean, yes, I loved them for the way they were handled and the way they were shot and what the characters brought to the scene, but that doesn’t mean I have to like WHAT happened!

Moment of Goodness: At Halftime, TK Stands by his Quarterback, Necessary Roughness Season Finale

Necessary Roughness

I think it was a reporter near the end of the Necessary Roughness season 2 finale that called Rex Evans’ public admission that he was gay a defining moment in sports history. So true. Even in fake TV land, it was great to see the Hawks’ quarterback come out. And to have the support of most of his team. But in this episode, there was also a defining moment for TK.

Guest Star Goodness Interview: Gaius Charles, Necessary Roughness

Actor: Gaius Charles
Necessary Roughness Role: Damon Razor, the wannabe Hawks wide receiver, who is dealing with some challenges on and off the field.
Necessary Roughness Assessment: Damon seemed like a sure thing, an athlete the Hawks would have no problem drafting. However, during the scouting combine, his stats were off and he didn’t perform up to expectations. It turned out Razor was experiencing something called Impostor Syndrome. In other words, he didn’t feel like he deserved success so he basically sabotaged himself and his chances to become a Hawk. Plus, facts about his past came to light. He stole someone’s identity so this kid comes with legal and psychological problems. However, the Hawks may take a chance on him anyway.
Where You’ve Seen Him Before: Charles played the incredibly talented and cocky wide receiver, Brian “Smash” Williams on the late great high school football drama, Friday Night Lights. He also had a memorable role in a season 9 episode of NCIS. In “Rekindled,” he played Baltimore detective Jason King, an investigator of arson-related crimes. When Jason was a kid, future very special agent, Tony Dinozzo, saved him from a fire.

Warning: Spoilers Discussed

So far, season 2 of USA Network’s Necessary Roughness has been strong. The Dr. Dani/Matt love story is adorable, although they’re facing a big time obstacle with the whole “kids” debate. Matt wants them. Dr. Dani has been there done that. Hopefully, things won’t get too painful to watch on that front. The couple is just too cute. Let’s hope a breakup won’t happen anytime soon.

Things TV Goodness Learned from Marc Blucas of USA Network’s Necessary Roughness

Actor: Marc Blucas
TV Series: USA Network’s Necessary Roughness
TV Character: Matt Donnelly
Where You’ve Seen Him Before: He was, most famously, Riley on Buffy the Vampire Slayer; he’s done guest star spots on Lie to Me, House and Castle; he was the original David Clarke on ABC’s Revenge, but was already committed to Necessary Roughness. That’s when James Tupper replaced him as Amanda/Emily’s doomed dad.

Warning Spoilers for Season 2 Discussed

After what feels like forever, Necessary Roughness is finally back on USA Network for another season of work and family dysfunction, psychological trauma, football fierceness, and most importantly, Dr. Dani drama. What’s sure to cause some of that drama in this second season has to be the good doctor’s relationship with Matt. These two are adorable and their reunion at the end of last year was sweet. But, there’s no way they’re going to escape this season without experiencing some sort of disturbance, right? In the premiere, Dani and Matt (Datt? Mani?) are keeping their relationship quiet from her kids. Yeah, like that’s going to go well.

It Was So Good To See You (Week of September 4th)

As the summer shows come to an end, the cable networks keep on casting some great guest stars on my favorite shows. Here are some of the familiar faces that I found:

The Glades aired it season finale on a special night – Labor Day – on September 5.  This episode featured actor Jonathan Adams as a fellow police officer whose life was cut short because of a violent blow to the head by an escaped convict and his brother while actress Danielle Savre appeared as one of a group of hostages (who was actually the girlfriend of the convict’s brother).

Jonathan is probably best known for his roles in Bones and American Dreams, but he has also appeared in episodes of the short-lived series The American Embassy, Women’s Murder Club, NCIS, Castle, Medium, Crossing Jordan, Desperate Housewives, Boston Legal and 24.
