Reality Fix: Face Off “Heroic Proportions”

image

Another week, another exciting episode. I love that the contestants got to create an original superhero this week. Some of the artists were really able to shine, while others seemed so lost and not at all confident in their skills. I’m going to focus on the top three looks this week because I think each artist did something really unique and interesting.

Reality Fix: Bravo’s LOLwork Series Premiere “The Show Must Go On!”

Are you ready for a new Bravolebrity? Then meet Will Sharick, the cat loving curmudgeon on Bravo’s new show LOLwork. Sharick is the self-proclaimed “censor” for the website ICanHasCheezburger.com, which features photos of animals (lots of cats and dogs) with humorous captions. Sharick is a younger, paler, long-lost brother of Jeff Lewis, and I anxiously await the day they end up together on Andy Cohen’s clubhouse couch. Not like that.

Reality Fix: So You Think You Can Dance “Top 14”

I’m not quite sure how it happened, but I’m somehow less engaged with So You Think You Can Dance this season. I’ve always complained about the number of hours this show is on per week (at least before this season), so I thought having the show on one night a week for two hours was going to be brilliant. Except, I find that I still don’t have enough time. I used to enjoy all the judges critiques and getting to know the dancers better through their packages and at rehearsals, but this year I find myself fast-forwarding through it all. This season I just want to see them dance. And my favorite couple is Lindsay Arnold and Cole Horibe. I wasn’t sure about this pairing at first, but they’ve definitely become a couple I like to watch every single week.

Reality Fix: So You Think You Can Dance “Vegas Callbacks”

I don’t know about you but I’m really enjoying this one-night a week business. I think I look forward to the show more. The audition rounds have never been my favorite so I’ve appreciated seeing less of them. I always enjoy Vegas week because I know we’re going to see some amazing dancing. I like seeing the dancers push themselves to do more, to work harder. I don’t really like the breakdowns and I can do without the attitude (from the dancers and sometimes from the judges. Tyce, you know I’m talking to you). Having said that, there were a lot of great moments. I’ll talk about some of them.

Reality Fix: Dancing with the Stars Finals Report

Another season of Dancing with the Stars is wrapped. Do you know what was so great about this season? It was the first time there were a lot of people that were really good. It was definitely a fair and equal competition. Don’t you agree?

Reality Fix: Moment of Goodness from Dancing with the Stars’ Classical Week

As good as this season has been, there was something on last week’s result show that was a real Moment of Goodness. DWTS has been doing segments on people that have had to overcome incredible odds to be a dancer. During Classical Week, they told the story of Richard “Steelo” Vasquez. He has been one of the top street dancers and worked in film and stage. On June 19, 2011, Steelo was suddenly struck with a brain aneurism. He was unable to walk or do any basic functions that all of us take for granted. This man has fought his way back with rehab and help from his family and friends. For the first time since this horrible event happened, he got to dance with his crew on DWTS. Not only was it a miracle, it was inspirational. Everyone chanted his name when he was finished.

It makes you think how life can change at any moment.—Melissa Friedman

Reality Fix: Dancing with the Stars and Motown Week

We are about half way through the season of Dancing with the Stars. What I love about this year is that there isn’t really a front runner and everyone has been pretty good. Even Martina Navratilova, who was booted off the first week, wasn’t that bad. It makes it fair which is a nice switch. But let’s be honest, there is one thing that makes this season full of TV goodness, and his name is William Levy!

Reality Fix: Fashion Star “Pilot”

I watch way too much TV in general so I try to choose carefully when deciding what to add to my already (over)full schedule. I guess I have a weakness for reality fashion shows (well, some reality fashion shows), because I knew I was going to give Fashion Star a chance. I like the brands of all the mentors and the host. I like that we’re finally seeing a fashion show where commerce plays a major role - because, guess what, it does in real life. I like that the mentors are there for advice and to save someone the buyers put in the bottom 3 each week. I think where Nicholas Bowles really got into trouble this week was dissing and dimissing Jessica Simpson’s opinion. And every time he opened his mouth to ”explain,” it just got worse. The producers of this show picked these 3 mentors for a reason. I think they have a lot to teach these designers and if anyone thinks they’re too good to at least listen to their advice, they should get out of the fashion game now.

Reality Fix: All On The Line Qristyl Frazier Plus-Sexy

Plus size fashion is not usually something that gets a lot of attention. Every once in a while one of the fashion reality shows I watch will spend an episode on it and in this episode of All on the Line, Joe Zee decides to put Qristyl Frazier in the spotlight. She’s plus size herself and I love her style. She sees bigger women as plus-sexy and has set out to make fashionable clothes in larger sizes. Some of her clothes are a mess - the fabrication and execution is often sub-par because she’s spread herself too thin - but she’s got talent. I love that she turns out to be an even better designer than Joe Zee imagined.

Reality Fix: Project Runway All Stars “Return to the Runway”

All Star seasons of reality shows are all the rage now, aren’t they? I loved the All Star edition of Top Chef. I put up with the All Star edition of America’s Next Top Model. This is probably the last All Star edition of anything I’ll be watching for a while and I think it’s off to a great start. I pretty much remember all the players from their seasons and I’m so happy to see some of their familiar faces. When I first heard that there would be different judges, a new mentor, and a new host I didn’t like it. But I was impressed with Joanna Coles, Isaac Mizrahi, and Georgina Chapman in this episode. I’m going to reserve judgment on Angela Lindvall. She’s so cute and she seems really excited, but I don’t love her as a host. I think she’s too uneasy in front the camera (strange, right?). I hope she becomes more at ease as the season progresses.
