Fall TV Crush: The Boys of Hawaii Five-0

Season Two of Hawaii Five-0 kicked off last Monday and continued last night with a boatload of pretty, and rugged, and nerdy, and handsome, and a little bit of something for everyone for a smorgasbord of hot. You can seriously have a lovely little helping of any type of boy that suits your fancy. Where to start?

Hawaii Five-0: “Loa Aloha (The Long Goodbye)”

Catching up, y’all. Thanks for waiting! So, the stunt casting of Dane Cook as Danny’s brother did NOT suck. Shock me, shock me. shock me. I did, however, want to see Danny nut up and wing him to keep him safe, but alas, then we couldn’t have him come back again. Upsides, Danny does get a sympathetic shoulder (and cuddle) from Rachel.

Hawaii Five-0: “E Malama (To Protect)”

Excuse the delay, kids. Tumblr ate my draft (no, really!) Last week’s episode switched things up a bit as Kelly was partnered with McGarrett, Danny went ever so slightly off kilter to protect Grace (and Rachel) while Kono ran point and awesomely told a killer’s attorney exactly what she thought of his threats.

Hawaii Five-0 “Heihei (Race)” by Heather M.

Now y’all know I love me some Alex O’Loughlin, but I came to the startling realization in this episode that boyfriend is skinny. We open with him wearing a wifebeater while trying to put his house back together and all I could think was that the boy needs mashed potatoes! Especially when I just came off a Moonlight jag (shut it), where he was easily at least ten pounds (and not just the hair, wiseasses) heavier than he is now. So, that out the way, let’s proceed, shall we?

Hawaii Five-0: “Po’ipu (The Siege)” by Heather M.

Well it was an “all hands” kinds of week on Hawaii Five-0, where everybody got to be in on the case in pretty much equal measure. Awesome. The only hitch was some weird use/misuse of the guest cast. They brought in the saucy and stunning Emmanuelle Vaugier, had her strip to her skivvies to assassinate a guy and then…that’s pretty much the extent of her appearance, which nets a big HUH? The other guest this week is Max Martini as a former SEAL pal of McGarrett’s, whom Danny immediately distrusts. McGarrett calls jealous, and then before long has to eat that because, ding, ding, ding, Danny’s bullshit-meter actually is pretty accurate.

Hawaii Five-0 “Mana’o (Belief)” by Heather M.

Scott Caan gets a showcase episode with “”Mana’o (Belief)”, which focuses on Danny’s attempt to clear the name of his former partner, Hanamoa, whose charred corpse is discovered at a Luau at the beginning of the episode. Working the case puts Kelly right in the path of one of the IA goons (Homicide’s Jon Seda) who had disgraced him, so he’s got more than enough motivation to help Danny make things right.

Hawaii Five-0: “Ho’apono (Accept)” by Heather M.

Photo Credit: CBS (This’ll have to do because no photos of Robert Loggia and one goofy one of Adam Beach = PR FAIL)

Alex O’ Loughlin and Adam Beach go mano a mano this week. Sadly, only O’Loughlin is shirtless (foiled!) The episode centers on McGarrett getting onto the USS Missouri to talk down Graham Wilson (Beach), a former Navy SEAL accused of murdering his wife, who has taken tourists on the ship hostage.  McGarrett has to hold off SWAT while the rest of 5-0 works the murder.

Hawaii Five-0: “Nalowale (Forgotten/Missing)” by Heather M.

Another dark outing this week and they’re starting to plant seeds for who the McGarretts are beyond the surface. The episode opens with kids on a submarine tour spotting the body of a young blonde woman in the water. The Coast Guard is called and the next thing we see is McGarrett indeed waking up beside the lovely lieutenant Catherine Rollins from last week (Michelle Borth) and there’s some flirty discussion about her still being owed dinner and them never quite getting to it. So they’ve been seeing other for a while.

Hawaii Five-0: “Lanakila (Victory)” by Heather M.

Well this was by far the darkest of the episodes that have aired, and it was an out-of-order swap, originally scheduled to air next week. The episode follows the bloody trail of an escaped convict, Walter Dawkins, played by Balthazar Getty, as he tracks down a presumed-dead associate who took the haul from a bank job. I think the body count, by just his hand, by episode’s end, was four dead and two shot. That part of the episode was pretty by-the-numbers, but much more relentless than I expected given the lighter tone we’ve had.
