TV Goodness Reports: Scandal Special Event @ The TV Academy

[WARNING: Major spoilers for Scandal season two finale]

Sometimes you get to do fun things when you work in television.  On Thursday night, I had the great fortune of going to one of the best industry events I have ever been to.  The cast of ABC’s Scandal, led by Kerry Washington, did a live table read of the season finale, “White Hat’s Back On.”  I had mixed emotions but I am so glad that I got to see it.  If you did not watch the episode yet, stop reading and go watch it!  Yes, you!  Okay now that you watched it, let’s discuss.

TV News In Review (Week of April 7, 2013)

A lot happens week to week in terms of TV news. An actor we love is cast in a project we can’t wait to watch, a great series gets picked up for another season, or we find out premiere (or finale) dates for shows we watch obsessively. This week there was a lot of good stuff. Below we’ve picked our Top 5 News Stories of the Week:

New Projects We’re Excited About

Adrien Brody to star in HISTORY’S miniseries on Houdini

You had us at Adrien Brody. Then you had us again at Houdini. Although this is still technically in development, we’re including it in the hopes that it goes forward. Why? There is just something so enduring and intriguing about master illusionist Harry Houdini. After HISTORY’S  success with both The Bible and Hatfields & McCoys, our expectations are high. We know they won’t let us down.

Moment of Goodness: Fitz Pours His Heart Out to Olivia, Scandal “Happy Birthday, Mr. President”

As far as I’m concerned, Scandal creator, Shonda Rhimes, can keep those Fitz and Olivia flashbacks coming. Because if I can’t get my Olitz fix in present day, I have to get them somewhere. And when the two were knee deep into a full blown affair, they were sizzling hot. “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” solidified things for me. They are one of the hottest couples in all of TV maybe even THE hottest couple currently on TV. Kara and I included them on our Too Much Chemistry list for a reason. In the latest episode, they gave us plenty of proof positive.

6 Awesomely Shocking Moments from the Scandal Season 1 Finale “Grant: For the People”

Warning: Spoilers for Scandal’s first season finale so don’t read if you haven’t watched yet.

The Scandal Season 1 finale was intense, engrossing, well acted and simply glorious. It was one of those episodes where I didn’t budge an inch from where I was sitting because I didn’t want to miss a beat. If there were holes in the story or any annoyances, don’t tell me about them. I don’t care. I liked this episode and I like this show that much. I’m not usually into Shonda Rhimes shows but I am completely on board with this one. Let’s break down some of the awesomeness we witnessed from this finale, shall we?

Moment of Goodness: Olivia Confronts President Grant, Scandal “Sweet Baby”

I am all over anything Kerry Washington does, but managed to miss Scandal’s premiere last week. Thankfully ABC reran it last night, and DAMN. Girlfriend is fierce as ever as an uber-competent problem solver for the D.C. elite. A former employee of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, Olivia is on her own now and mid-stream on a very high-profile case when she’s summoned to Camp David to help quash a brewing infidelity rumor. She wants to look President Grant (Tony Goldwyn) in the eye before she agrees to help and Cyrus (Jeff Perry), the president’s chief aide (comms director?), acquiesces.

Mid-Season Preview: Lights Out and Off the Map

I’m very excited about quite a few of the mid-season shows. I don’t know much about them yet but the advertising has definitely been piquing my interest.

Above is the billboard image for Lights Out and I’m already impressed. FX knows how to promote the hell out of a show (they even did a great job with the underappreciated Terriers). I tend to give everything they do a chance and I’m especially excited about this one. Premieres: Jan. 11
