Pilot Preview: The CW’s Cult

Alaric is back on TV tonight! Well, not really. But Matt Davis will just have to do.

We’ve been hearing about Cult since it went to pilot last spring and was greenlit as a mid-season replacement. It seems like it’s been a long time getting here. The first available slot was post-Emily Owens, M.D., so here we are.

Heather’s 2012 TV Goodness All-Stars: Arrow’s Stephen Amell

When Arrow launched in the fall, I named Stephen Amell as one of my fall crushes. He is also one of my 2012 TV Goodness All-Stars because Arrow has become a big fat hit for the CW, and that rests a lot on his shoulders.

The Vampire Diaries “My Brother’s Keeper”

So, I’m going to wade very carefully into this recap. My nits have nothing to do with the who, but the how, and we’ll get to that. As I’ve said before: I only ship Caroline and Tyler on this show. Everybody else is on their own.

The Vampire Diaries “We All Go A Little Mad Sometimes”

DISCLAIMER: I don’t ship anybody on this show except Tyler and Caroline.

So, we’ve arrived at Elena’s complete, flaming meltdown, courtesy of killing Connor. Klaus drops the nugget that his bender from killing all five hunters lasted 57 years. So, she’s in for 11.4 years? Yay? Stefan and Damon are trying to work out how to control her when she stabs Jeremy in the neck mid-delusion. She calls Damon for help because she can’t trust Stefan, and when Damon calls Stefan, she won’t have anything to do with him.

The Vampire Diaries “The Killer”

The gang’s all here for “The Killer,” which turned out to be much better in practice than it was in theory, because, honestly, y’all, I was afraid the whole shebang was going to be a yawner of a hostage situation. That was one piece of it, but there were also big and small moments throughout.

Relationship Recap: Alex and Sean “Nikita”

Last night, Sean told Alex he loved her and she was floored to hear it. Frankly so was I. Where the hell did that come from? How come we haven’t seen any of that onscreen? I feel like for everything TPTB have done right by Nikita and Michael, they’ve biffed it across the board for Alex and Sean. We had some really wonderful scenes of them together late last season in the run up to their first kiss and that’s pretty much been it. I think the kiss after he tells her is only the second one we’ve had.

Welcome to season four of The Vampire Diaries! I’m your host, Heather.

This is a season of new beginnings as Elena has to face the choice that was made for her, and everybody around her gets to deal with it in variable shades of acceptance.

We’ve known for weeks that the season two finale was going to be epic, and we’d had the very bad cast tease us mercilessly there would be a body count. Well, they were right on both counts.

The series hit a reset in a major way, and if the CW had closed the door last week, instead of happily greenlighting a third season, we’d have been OK because it left with Nikita and co. alive and well and embarking on a daring new path on their own terms.

Last year’s next-to-laster was a jaw dropper because we lost Jenna and Uncle Daddy, but this year, the 21st episode treaded water a little bit with one jaw dropper and then a whole lot of filler. I spent most of it waiting for the other shoe to drop, and in the last few seconds of the episode, it finally did. We’ll get to that. Get comfy. This is going to be wordy.

So, the CW promo monkeys gave away the “what” of this episode of Nikita, but the “how” was infinitely more entertaining and chock full of awesome. We had bitching and bonding and and bullets galore. Splitting up the pairs was character magic for us at home, and there were a few moments worth highlighting.
